Middlesex County Car Theft Ring Disrupted by South Brunswick Police

According to NJ.com, South Brunswick police responded to a call arising out of the Beekman Manor Development in which a resident noticed two individuals trying to break into vehicles in the early morning hours of Monday, September 30. When police arrived onto the scene, an hours-long foot chase ensued, which resulted in the arrest of one suspect. Another suspect has been identified and as of Friday, October 4th, is still at large.

Following the initial notification by the resident of the illegal activity, the police, with the assistance of New Jersey State Police aviation and K9 sent out a Nixle alert, alerting South Brunswick residents of the two alleged car thieves. After the arrest of the first suspect, the subsequent investigation revealed that the two 19-year-olds were involved in a Middlesex County burglary ring. Additionally resulting from the investigation, a 2011 Mercedes that had been recently stolen out of Monmouth Junction was recovered in Trenton. The police involved with the case attribute their success in apprehending the first suspect and recovering the Mercedes to the cooperation with the residents of South Brunswick.

In addition to South Brunswick theft and burglary charges, the suspects likely face hindering apprehension and resisting arrest. Burglary occurs when a suspect enters a building (or car) with the intent to commit a crime within. In the absence of a threat of bodily injury to another, burglary is typically a third degree indictable offense, which is also known as a felony. For this offense alone, the suspects face 3-5 years in prison.

Middlesex County has an active and capable police force. Officers aggressively patrol South Brunswick and the surrounding area including Old Bridge, Woodbridge, New Brunswick, East Brunswick, and Piscataway for theft crimes such as burglary, robbery, theft by deception, fraud, and identity theft.
