According to this NJ.com report, Woodbridge Township’s school district business administrator was recently arrested on after police allegedly found a gram of cocaine during following a search of his car.

The senior public school official was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance before being released on his own recognizance. He was later suspended from his job with pay because, for some strange reason, New Jersey thinks that is a good use of your tax dollars.

According to the report, police allegedly witnessed a transaction on Wednesday between the business administrator and a man suspected of dealing drugs throughout Woodbridge Township in the parking lot of the Woodbridge School District Administration building which is near a school, a park, and public housing.

After placing the suspected dealer under surveillance, police discovered “[He] was dealing cocaine to the Business Administrator of Woodbridge.”

After witnessing the alleged transaction, police stopped the municipal employee and searched his vehicle, allegedly finding about a gram of cocaine with a street value of $50.

The dealer was arrested on Thursday and charged with distribution of CDS, possession of CDS and distribution of CDS in a school zone, park zone and public housing complex zone, He was held on $25,000 bail in Middlesex County Correctional Facility.

Both men face indictable charges that will be heard in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick. Distribution of CDS charges are enhanced if it occurs in a school zone or near a public park or public housing. If the distribution occurs within 1,000 feet of a school zone the defendant no longer enjoys a presumption against non-incarceration and faces three to five years in jail as a third offense. When distribution of cocaine occurs with 500 feet of a public park or housing, the offense will actually be upgraded to a second degree charge in which the defendant will face 5-10 years in jail.
